I have no idea about Orkut. I have never used it. But I will say that all "Symbols" are code, and some tools or websites don't have that code in their settings. So it MAY not take it.

This reminds me of Twitter Keys (http://thenextweb.com/2008/09/16/twitterkeys-enhance-your-twitter-conversations/). I always thought they were cool to add to your tweets, but no one really uses them.

Thanks for the insight Cait. You know I've used the character map in Word and more rarely in Excel. I never though to use it outside of those arenas even though there have been times when I wanted to insert a symbol & just didn't know how.
