The Hub

The Great Dane is a very large, but a really nice and kind dog. Great Danes can come in many colors such as gray, black and white, all black and a light brown, just to name a few. They have kind of rectangular heads with a very sharp look to them. I think they are pretty dogs, in there own way. Most Great Danes have dark colored eyes, it is unlikely you will find one with lighter eyes. Most dogs have dark eyes so, I mean that isn’t uncommon.

In most pictures you see of a Great Dane their ears are always up and they always look like they are on the look out. Not all Great Danes have their ears like that, you have to get their ears cropped to make them look like that. If you don’t get them cropped then the ears just hang down. I really like them with cropped ears cuz they look so much cooler and not so frumpy. To me they look much smarter and they look like they know what they’re doing! That is just my thought though. Some people like when their dogs look sweeter and kinder!

They are fairly muscular and love to go for walks. It is not best to get a Great Dane if you are gone a lot. They love people and love attention. They are a pretty active dog and don’t like to be left alone for too long. They also love to have a big yard to run around in. They do not like to be left outside all the time cuz they get lonely. I think that is good too, cuz I don’t think it is right when people leave their dogs out 24-7 unless they have some shelter or somewhere to hide, but that’s just me.

The Great Dane in nicknamed as the “Gentle Giant”, for good reasons. My guess is cuz they are gentle and cuz they are giant dogs. Ha Ha I am just toooooo smart LOL. Anyway, they are really good with other animals and kids, of coarse if their owners treat them right and are nice to them. They don’t bark that much unless they feel as if their owner is in danger or being hurt. They are a really good watch dog.

Having a Great Dane can cost you a pretty penny, they eat a lot of food. They don’t have that many heath problems, but when they get older sometimes that can have some heart problems. They are fairly easy to train, but it is best to train them when they are puppies. It is much easier. They do need to get their nails cut about once every two weeks cuz they grow fast and like really any other dog, if their nails broke off that would really hurt. I know when I brake a nail it hurts so it will with them too. This is a great dog and that could be why they call it the GREAT Dane!!!

The males weigh about 130 – 180 pounds on a good diet and they are about 30 – 35 inches tall.
The females weigh about 110 – 130 pounds aging on a good diet and they are about 28 – 33 inches tall.
